None of us set out to build a platform. We were just the people asking around.
A few years ago I could not have told you the difference between a HYROX and a CrossFit competition. Everything I knew came from a friend who had done one, or a post that made it look good. Neither told me what the day actually involved.
That turned out not to be a me problem. Ask almost anyone how they pick an event and you get the same answer. A friend went last year. A coach recommended it. Someone at the gym rated it. Word of mouth runs this industry, and most of the time it works.
It stops working the moment nobody you know has been. Then there is nowhere to look — no single place where events sit side by side, described in the same terms, so you can weigh one against another.
And there is more to weigh every year. Hybrid racing, obstacle events, festivals, functional fitness. The calendar keeps growing, and most of it is discovered through a feed. More choice is a good thing. It also makes the same question harder: which of these is worth committing to?
So we built what we needed. One place. Every event described the same way. Each one entered and assessed by somebody who was actually there.
My name is Matt. I started The Pursuit, and I review events like everyone else here. We pay our own entry fees, stand on the same start lines, and write up what we found. Our names sit against every event we assess. Without that, this is just another list.
The Pursuit is still early, and every conversation helps it grow. If you want to get involved, work with us or simply share an idea, I would like to hear from you.
